Be helpful.

‘what makes ‘good architecture?’ …

…‘what makes good design?’

When contemplating this venture, we spent a great deal of time pondering the philosophical essence of these questions. If a designer can imagine the most fantastic places and spaces, but they do not meet their client’s needs, those imaginations are doomed to fail. If an architect or project manager puts together the most minute outlines and schedules and rigidly follows them, but the design has no ‘soul’; that too will fail. So, we were left to consider,

‘what is it that motivates us as architects and designers?’

We are often asked, ‘what kind of projects do we prefer to work on?’ The response helps clarify our identity and what we wish to accomplish as a business and as professionals in architecture and design. In the end, it is quite simple, ‘Just be Helpful!’; care about our client’s goals for each specific project. As service providers it is imperative that we care about our client’s objectives and make them our own. For some client’s that means doggedly guarding their budget. For others it may mean looking at numerous design options until something checks all the boxes. For many clients it means listening to many stakeholders and coalescing varying interests into a design that creatively meets multiple needs. All of this becomes clear and manifest when

our goal as designers and professionals is to simply take our professional skills, knowledge and experience and employ them in the service of
